EARLY YEARS

Welcome to our Nursery and Reception

Settling In

Here at Xabia International College, we know that starting in the Foundation stage is a huge change in a child’s life, and therefore provide support and guidance for both children and parents through every step of this new exciting journey. We work closely with each individual family to ensure that each child settles in their own time and at their own pace.

Personalised Attention

In our Pre Foundation and Foundation 1 groups, every September we have a staggered entry where children initially start school in small groups of about 4 to 5 children. This ensures that children have as much attention and support as they need on a 1:1 basis in the mornings, growing accustomed to their new surroundings and to new faces. Each day we welcome a new group of children, adding to those that have already settled, which allows for a warm and relaxed atmosphere. We are also happy to let children settle in by asking parents to leave them for however long they are comfortable, to begin with, be that for an hour, a morning, or indeed a whole day. Each child is individual and we offer a tailored settling plan for each child.

Parent – School Communication

Staff are available to speak to informally both in the mornings and afternoons, and the Foundation Stage use the ‘Class Dojo’ app to keep in touch with parents daily. Parents meetings are held termly, although parents are welcome to organise meetings with staff by prior appointment whenever they feel they need to.

Individual development and play
Activities are topic based around the child’s interests and are planned to allow each individual to develop key skills, not only academic but co-operation, problem-solving and information seeking skills too. Our indoor areas include role play areas, small world areas, tactile sensory play as well as our reading and writing areas (both structured and independent). Our outdoor areas allow children an opportunity to develop their gross motor skills, a great joy of outside learning is being able to work on a much bigger scale (using paint rollers, giant bricks etc…).

Bilingual curriculum

We are the only International College in Javea, and embrace children for all cultures and nationalities from around the world. Although we follow the British Foundation Stage guidelines, our bilingual Nursery Team (Spanish and English) and specific language based Spanish classes in Foundation 1 and 2 (taught by native Spanish teachers) ensure that the children have access to both Spanish and British curriculums.

Your child is absolutely at the centre of their own learning and development, and we are here to guide and support them through the early stages of their learning journey.

Learning structure

The Foundation Stage is truly the place where children build the foundations of their learning and shape their attitude to education for future years. It is because of this that we have an informal yet structured setting which allows each individual child to develop and learn at their own pace. Activities in the Foundation Stage are based on the three prime areas of the Foundation Stage guidelines:

  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Communication, language and literacy
  • Physical development

and the four specific areas of learning:

  • Mathematics
  • Literacy
  • Understanding of the world
  • Expressive arts and design
